This course will introduce students to Universal Design (UD) and its principles, including the evolution of the concept of Universal Design from architecture to its multiple applications in education. Students will gain understanding of the ways Universal Design is shaping our understanding of inclusion and full participation. Students will apply principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to traditional classroom instruction for students with intellectual disabilities, accommodations, modifications, and student support. Course discussion will include research on Universal Design and its application in creating inclusive materials and environments. The course will also provide an overview of technologies that facilitate application of Universal Design.
