Description: Environmental Technologists use survey techniques: to record physical features such as: structures, utilities, land forms, water boundaries, vegetation, test pits, contaminated or threatened areas; and to lay out and control the construction of earthworks and drainage works, dams, dykes, retaining ponds and to manage rehabilitation sites. This is an introductory course in field surveying with computation and drawing. Students prepare basic engineering plans, profiles, cross-sections and calculate earthwork volumes. Students work outside in “survey crews” to determine elevations, horizontal angles and distances.
