The Physical Layer

Course Code CNET-219
Lecture hours per week 2
Lab hours per week 2
Course Availability: Open

This course is an introduction to the OSI model's physical layer. The key physical layer concepts of data communications will be primarily investigated. This course is a combination of 13 unique labs with supporting theory classes. Students will learn networking codes and standards, electrical aspects of communication channels, data communications, cables and connectors and fiber optic communication principles. Optical fiber labs will be used as the main practical reinforcement of the physical layer principles, such as encoding, multiplexing, attenuation, maximum bit rates, rise time, SNR, etc.
