Description: The main topic of this course is the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST/HST) along with the provincial Retail Sales Tax (RST) and the various requirements related to the collecting and remitting of these taxes. Material includes the identification, registration and responsibilities of entities for calculating, filing and remitting the tax including common examples of zero-rated and tax exempt activities. Once students gain an introductory knowledge of the concepts, they will draw extensively on government publications to search and retrieve solutions to specific business problems. In conjunction with Accounting 112, financial information will be analyzed to determine debits and credits on client accounts to enable the student to clarify the status of the account.
