This course focuses on health as a highly conditioned social phenomenon. Health related issues across the lifespan (such as mobility, disease, obesity) that influence an individual’s ability to embrace active living are examined along with strategies that address these client challenges/special needs in exercise management and health promotion. Fundamental concepts related to the field of health promotion will be closely examined and discussed, with an emphasis on the determinants of health, population health, healthy public policy, health communication, community organization, advocacy and health education The impact that age, gender, socio-economic status and culture have on maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle will be thoroughly examined.
