Advocacy is the process of defending and supporting a cause or proposal, or the rights of an individual or a group. Early Childhood Advocacy is about making changes to improve the lives of children and their families, and the status of those who work so hard to guide and care for them. This course will focus on the importance of understanding and developing our role as effective advocates. It will enable you to build upon the kind of knowledge and commitment that you as an early childhood professional have already demonstrated in your work with young children and families. It will examine the whys and hows of advocacy and provide strategies to help you select issues, build support and join with others to create change. To meet the individual learning needs of students a variety of teaching strategies and in-class experiences will support the students learning towards a shared understanding of the course content.
