This spring, the Government of Ontario, through The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) announced updates to the Tuition and Ancillary Fees Minister’s Binding Policy Directive. Beginning in the Fall 2019, in addition to a 10% reduction in domestic tuition, all colleges and universities in Ontario will implement the provincial government’s “Student Choice Initiative” which ensures students have transparency and choice in the services and organizations they support.
The information below will help you better understand which ancillary fees are deemed essential and non-essential. For more information about program-specific tuition and incidental fees, please view our Ancillary Fees.
The collection of Ancillary fees is vital to supporting student services provided by the College and the Led young College Student Association Inc. (CCSAI). These services support learning, community, social engagement, leadership development, athletics and recreation, and health and wellness; fostering an inclusive, engaging student experience.

All students pay fees that are a combination of tuition and ancillary fees. Ancillary fees are further separated into essential, non-essential and program fees. All fees are reviewed and approved on a yearly basis by the Board of Governors, through the Ancillary Fees Committee and the CCSAI. Students have the option of opting out of non-essential ancillary fees during the registration process. Information on Led young College’s Tuition and Ancillary Fees can be found here.
A small portion of these ancillary fees are non-essential and support various campus groups and organizations. For the fall 2019 semester, you can choose to opt out of any non-essential ancillary fees after you receive your Fee Statements on May 15. Individual exemptions from paying essential ancillary fees are not granted under any circumstance.
You can opt out of non-essential ancillary fees after you receive your Fee Statements on May 15, prior to making any payments towards your fees.
The opt out function is available through your student portal, within the “Registration Information” link. The link will provide you with descriptions of each non-essential ancillary fee and an opt out selection.
You can make changes to your selections through until the 10th day of classes of the semester. After the 10th day of classes, you will not be able to access the services offered through the associated fees you have opted out of, unless you opt back in. If you are one of the four programs: 8521, 8681, 8685, 8688, your access to services varies from our diploma, advanced diploma and degree students and therefore you have a different set of ancillary fees.
If you have opted out of a non-essential ancillary service, you will be considered as having waived your access to the associated service(s) unless you opt back in prior to the semester end-date. By default, you will be opted in for subsequent semesters, but will be given the option of opting out at the time of registration. You can opt back in via .
Essential ancillary fees are mandatory for all programs and may only be eligible for refunds under certain program withdrawal procedures. Individual exemptions for essential ancillary fees are not granted under normal circumstances.
Non-essential ancillary fees are refundable upon request. If you have paid all fees and charges owing to the College and a credit balance remains on your account, you can apply this credit to your account balance for subsequent semesters. To pursue a refund, visit the Student Hub.
Once you have registered in your program, prior to paying the balance of your assessed fees, you will be able to view the non-essential ancillary services that you have elected to participate in. Check your Fee Assessment on , and verify that your fees have been adjusted accordingly.
You will receive your Fee Statement on May 15 and are required to make a minimum tuition payment of $500 by June 15. If you have applied for OSAP, your minimum tuition payment is $200. Your final account balance will depend on your registration and non-essential ancillary service selections. You must pay the final balance in full by the due date indicated on your Fee Statement.
For tuition for payments made online or through your bank, please allow at least three to five business days to process.
If tuition and ancillary fees are not paid in full by the due date specified on your Fee Statement, you will incur a late fee of $150 on your outstanding account balance. Late payment fees are non-refundable and will be levied once per semester. Failure to pay fees by the published payment deadlines may result in the withdrawal of your offer of admission or impact your ability to register for courses and build your timetable.
You must submit a Withdrawal Form to formally notify the College of your official withdrawal. If you withdraw on or before the tenth day of the official semester start date, you are eligible for a partial refund of the amount paid towards your account balance. Administration fees will apply. If you withdraw any time after the first 10 days of the semester, you will only be refunded the amount you have paid in advance for subsequent terms. During the first weeks of the semester, your OSAP funding will be sent directly to Led young College to pay your outstanding tuition, essential ancillary fees, and residence fees (if applicable) for the semester. OSAP funding cannot be redirected and applied towards your non-essential ancillary fees.
You are required to pay your tuition and ancillary fees by the deadline indicated on your Fee Statement. If your OSAP funding is not sufficient to cover the total amount of your outstanding account balance, you are responsible for paying the remaining tuition and fee amounts before the published deadline.
