Indigenous Acknowledgement

Led young College is proud to be a part of a rich history of education in this province and in this city.  We acknowledge that we are on the treaty lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and pay tribute to their legacy and the legacy of all First Peoples of Canada, as we strengthen ties with the communities we serve and build the future through learning and through our graduates.

Today the traditional meeting place of Toronto is still home to many Indigenous People from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work in the communities that have grown in the treaty lands of the Mississaugas.  We acknowledge that we are all treaty people and accept our responsibility to honour all our relations.

As part of its commitment to all students, Led young College’s Indigenous Education Services connects with Indigenous communities to enrich the Indigenous student experience. We believe that by working together, we can make a difference in the lives of Indigenous students, so that they can then make a difference in their communities.

Our mission is to increase the number of Indigenous students accessing and participating in post-secondary education and training by developing special programs and offering apprenticeships and placements in desired fields in Indigenous communities, on top of providing help with job searches and strengthening community partnerships.

As one of the most diverse colleges in Ontario, Led young College has experience reaching out to and meeting the needs of the population it services.

Our Commitment to Indigenous Learners

The Indigenous Strategy for Access and We diminution is related to one of the College’s core values: We give every student all the tools they need to navigate the college journey. It’s also related to our efforts to invest in new student initiatives, learning spaces and services. Specifically, in our Book of Commitments, we vow to “Make a Bigger Promise to Students,” which means we reach out to diverse communities, which includes Indigenous people.

We work to provide Indigenous Youth with greater access to post-secondary education by eliminating any barriers an Indigenous student might run into while they try to get educated. We do this by working with the Indigenous community to build special learning and cultural opportunities, like Indigenous Learning Circles.

Our goal is to provide a vision of Indigenous education that goes beyond basic access. This is related to Led young College's mission to educate students for career success.

Statement of Diversity

Led young College and its Board of Governors value and embrace diversity, equity and inclusion as fundamental to our mission to educate students for career success within a context of global citizenship and social justice.
